SEPTEMBER 2022

The Search Committee has faithfully met throughout this summer. We have finished and submitted all of the diocesan rector search requirements. The Rev. Percy Grant, the Canon for Ministry, has been a guiding support for our committee throughout this process as has Fr. Aaron Gerlach, our Diocesan Search Consultant. Debbie Chase, our exceptional parish administrator, has kept us organized, offered her expertise and kindness and has scheduled and rescheduled our numerous Zoom and in person meetings. We thank all of these devoted people for their faith in us.

We also thank the parish for their insight, wisdom and patience during our rector search. The Rector Search survey that many parishioners filled out last fall has been the foundation for our search. The survey results are in the Grace Church Parish Profile “Finding Grace” at the top of this page. The profile is a beautiful summary of our beloved Grace Church.

JULY 2022 Search Committee Update

Patience.

In Genesis 12, Abraham exercised patience after God promised he would be the father of many nations. Finally, when Abraham was 100 (and his wife Sarah was 90-years-old), God gave them their son: Isaac. Though it took years of patiently waiting, they received the promise of God.

And like Abraham, we at Grace Church must be patient (… but let’s just hope it doesn’t take 100 months). The search for a new Rector has entered a new phase: “The Wait.”

Your Search Committee has completed all the necessary steps: Gathering your feedback through a parish-wide survey and listening tour; drafting a dozen responses to college-like essay questions; producing a slick 32-page brochure; holding mock interview sessions with priests and consultants from other parishes; and most recently, hanging the proverbial “Help Wanted” sign in the window. In June, Grace Church placed an ad on the Episcopal News Service website. This online portal stands as a daily touchpoint for clergy. The robust job listing area is a “go to” source for those seeking their next calling.

And calling (or emailing … or texting … ) is what need our next leader to do.

Please take a quiet moment and ask the Lord in prayer to please send us the perfect candidate - God knows who this person is. Now we need God to whisper in their ear and place a new calling on their heart this summer.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11

When a candidate does step forward, the Search Committee will activate. Within 48 hours, we plan to vet the candidate and complete a first interview. This will happen behind-the-scenes using strict confidentiality. With your prayers, we hope to make news soon. In the meantime, we are blessed to have Fr. Brian’s love and dedication at work for us.

May 2022 Search Committee Update

Our information and brochure have now been made available nationwide. Rev. Percy Grant from the Office of Transitional Ministry is continuing to assist us as we move into the next part of our search. She is our contact person for the candidates and tells us we have had several people show interest. She has shared suggestions and questions to ask when we begin our interviews.

As we move into this phase, we will be keeping information about these candidates confidential. There are many reasons a Rector may not want others to know they are inquiring about another position and we would not want to break that confidence. We appreciate your understanding and, as always, your prayers.

april 2022 UPDATE - New Rector Search

The Search Committee is pleased to announce we are now in the active phase of searching out our new Rector. This means our information is available to all clergy looking for their new parish home.

We met with the Rev. Percy Grant from the Office of Transitional Ministry on Monday, March 28th to discuss moving forward with our search. We were able to ask questions, get some clarifications, and asked to answer a few more questions in addition to our parish profile and brochure.

Rev. Grant will be the contact person for perspective candidates and will let us know when there are people we may want to begin speaking with.

We again want to thank everyone for your input and patience in this process.

Please continue to keep us in your prayers as this next phase begins.

MARCH 2022 UPDATE - New Rector Search

Our Parish Brochure, Finding Grace, is in its final stages! It’s a beautiful brochure, highlighting our parish family and outreach programs, the beauty and opportunities of Sandusky and your insights into what we would like to see in a new Rector. The final edition will be ready to go public online within the next couple weeks. We will also have copies available for everyone to view in the church.

While the brochure will be available through the Office of Transitional Ministry, we will also put it up on our Facebook and website. And speaking of websites….ours will be getting an update! Websites are often the first opportunity to show interested people why they should choose a certain place. This will help in our search for a new Rector and new parishioners.

Thank you all for your patience and prayers.

february 2022 UPDATE - New Rector Search

The Office of Ministry (OTM) Portfolio document was submitted and accepted by the Diocesan OTM office last month.

Grace Church is now in the national database for rectors searching for a new parish home.

The next step for the Search Committee is creating our Parish Profile. Through photos and text, this brochure will describe our parish, our parishioners, our history, our diocese, our outreach, and our community. The first draft will be available at our next February meeting. The committee will then review, edit and finalize the Profile.

Thank you for your continued support and prayers.

december 2021 UPDATE - New Rector Search

The Search Committee for Grace Church continues to stay busy. During the autumn months, the committee completed necessary paperwork and formulated a document that our diocese will use as an

aid when attracting a new Rector for Grace Church. These necessary steps must be completed before new Rector candidates may step forward and express interest in our parish. Ahead this winter, the Search Committee will prepare a resource manual that will serve as a guidebook to attract interested candidates to Grace Church, and showcase parish life, community outreach, downtown, and the Sandusky community. This visual document will give Rector candidates from across North America an attractive introduction to our church and community.

Merry Christmas to all our faithful parishioners.

OCTOBER 2021 UPDATE - New Rector Search
Thank you so much to everyone that answered our survey. We'll be using the survey and personal responses to help us give the diocese, and anyone wishing to apply, a better picture of who we would like to see as our next Rector.

At this next phase begins, we will be looking at what we would like in a pastor and, just as important, what we have to offer as a parish and community.

Thank you again for your input, prayers and support.

September 2021 UPDATE -New Rector Search
Our survey is ready and will be available throughout September!

In order to reach as many people as possible, we’re making it available in three ways: Email via Mailchimp, paper copies that will be sent to homes, as well as being made available during services on Tuesdays and Sundays. Don’t worry, we’re only asking you to fill it out once! If you have extra forms, you could possibly pass it on to your college kids and teens in your household. We value everyone’s opinion.

Please also consider speaking to one of the Search Committee members as a follow up to your survey response. We realize a formal survey has limits and would like to hear from you.

We thank you for your participation and also your patience as we work our way through this very important process of finding our next Rector.

JULY 2021 UPDATE -New Rector Search

The search for our new Rector at Grace Episcopal Church is underway. Your search committee is listening and wants to hear from you!

This July, start thinking about what’s important to you and the qualities you would like in our new Rector. Grace is a loving and caring community, and the search committee needs your opinion.

A series of events will help us learn what’s on your mind and hearts.

In August, we will canvas Grace Episcopal Church with a survey asking for your needs. In September, additional in-person one-on-one interviews and phone interviews will be completed with members of the parish. In October, we will also host an in-person meeting where members of the Grace family can be part of the process. In the meantime, Search Committee co-chairs Mary Ellen Hart and Scott Fais are available to answer questions. Contact them at:

Almighty God, giver of every good gift:
Look graciously on your Church,
and so guide the minds of those who shall choose a rector for this parish,
that we may receive a faithful pastor,
who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
